Freedom of Movement Tour
Location: San Francisco, CA
Time: 8:00 AM
Date: July 27, 2024
Join National Park Service Seasonal Park Guide, Ashley Borrego, as we explore freedom of movement through classic vehicles on the island like the oldest working NPS fire truck. Be inspired to stand in your power by learning about the women leaders of the 1969-71 Indigenous occupation in Red Power on Alcatraz: Perspectives 50 Years Later, the story of their 19-month Occupation of Alcatraz. See behind the scenes, how the historic gardens are planting seeds for change and stay for The Big Lockup: Mass Incarceration in the United States, which examines Alcatraz island as a military prison and federal penitentiary within the context of incarceration in the U.S. where currently 2.3 million people are behind bars, more than any other country in the world.
This experience centers Indigenous history.
